Second Life Medical Diagnosis Center


To make general public aware of socially relevant diseases and help them judge the potentially dangerous disease at early stages , our team has implemented a Medical Diagnosis System in SecondLife.

Brief Summary:

The model in Second Life is essentially a Medical Diagnosis Center for few diseases. These diseases are socially relevant and thus an attempt has been made to make them aware in quiet early stages of what the diseases can be. The medium used is interactive and immersive to make learning interesting.

The underlying model for the representation in SecondLife is A control Flow State machine which helps presenting sequence of states and paths resulting from different inputs..

Interactions:

The user comes to the triage and collects a wristband . He now becomes part of the model. The wristband assigned to him has a list of symptoms. The resulting diseases is unknown to him. Based on the list of the symptoms he is provided instructions as in a real world hospital.User is referred to a doctor where in the doctor asks user to get some tests done.Based on the test results the doctor confirms what is the actual disease.

Motivation:

Most of the people are not aware of diseases symptoms until last stage. The symptoms are very common for a specific disease. Thus we have tried to make user aware of the social relevant and frequently prevailing diseases. The medium of learning is fun part using immersive 3D environment.

Detailed description:

Based on the categories there are following Possible Scenarios

The model can be seen as 4 different parts.

Triage

The place where user enters and starts from. It assigns random symptoms to a patent and based on the symptoms gives him initial direction and route to a department.

• swollen lymph nodes ^ jaundice → Cancer

Now based on the symptom the department needs to perform some tests to confirm which possible diseases it is.

The project succeeds its goal if it helps a single person to get rid of disease knowing about the symptoms quite earlier.
